Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Developing healthier thought patterns and behaviors, leading to lasting positive change.
What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a type of therapy that focuses on changing negative thought patterns and behavior to improve mental health and well-being. It is based on the understanding that our thoughts, feelings, and actions are interconnected, and by changing our thoughts and behaviors, we can improve our emotions and overall quality of life.
In CBT, the therapist works with the individual to identify and challenge negative or unhelpful thoughts and beliefs that contribute to their distress. This process involves examining the evidence supporting these thoughts, exploring alternative interpretations, and developing more balanced and realistic thinking patterns. By doing so, individuals can gain a greater sense of control over their thoughts and emotions, leading to improved mood and confidence.
CBT also focuses on modifying problematic behaviors that may reinforce negative thought patterns or contribute to distress. Through various techniques and strategies, individuals are encouraged to engage in new behaviors that are more helpful and adaptive. This may involve practicing new coping skills, gradually facing feared situations, or engaging in activities that promote a sense of accomplishment and enjoyment. The goal is to empower individuals to take active steps towards their goals and overcome challenges in a way that supports their mental well-being.
